The perfect date involves...

...the element of surprise.

I just read that and it's so true. The best dates are the ones where you aren't quite sure what's going to happen and you've got that wild heartbeat when you are hoping something will...

Thoughts?

Surprises on dates can be good. Like getting flowers or not knowing what restaurant you're going to or driving somewhere nice to see something cool like a sunset or a herd of deer grazing (don't laugh - I love nature and the animals). Surprises like parachuting out of a plane or bungee jumping - not so much my idea of a good time. That would quickly be followed by a "surprise" trip to the ER to realign my internal organs. Seriously though - I think all long term romantic relationships need to be wary of falling into a rut/routine. Shake it up once in awhile with surprises.

I must use Ash's blog as a platform for my anger towards our lovely premier. Al Gore was in Calgary last night doing his global warming thing. So what does Ed Stelmach (or however you spell his name) decide to say....that perhaps Al Gore should clean up his own doorstep before preaching to others as the US is Canada's biggest oil and gas customer.

THAT IS SO NOT THE POINT!!

How is that some of the dumbest people end up in some of the most powerful positions?

Anyway, back to dating surprises....

Good surprises on a date:

Michael Shanks (aka Dr. Daniel Jackson from the best show ever, Stargate SG-1) I know he's married and has kids...but who said the surprises have to be realistic?

Aha...a trip through the Stargate...now tell me that wouldn't rock the house.

I'll stop now.

Agreed. I especially like it when people surprise me... Meaning something in their personality. In a positive way, however. Nobody likes an upsetting surprise, like, "Oops. Turns out he's cheap AND racist." That's never cool.

Definitely good surprise. I was out on a "date" once, we were on our way to his house so he could change because he'd just gotten off work, and we were on the way there and his car broke down and we had to walk/push his car almost a mile to his house. That surprise... not so great. But those good feelings, like "oh his he going to try and hold my hand", "oh my god, his hand touched mine" Ya, those feelings need to be kept in the long term relationships.
