Intertextuality at its finest:

Today my four year old said:

"Let's play comomodat with the hungry snake in the blue ocean of bubbly goo..."

Breaking it down:

comomodat = mispronunication of Mortal Combat, a movie based on a video game

hungry snake = the book Five Little Bats, based on the song Five Little Monkeys

blue ocean of bubbly goo = the book One Monster After Another

Reason #284 to attend library school: deciphering 4-year old play.

You're a fantastic writer, Ash. I love reading what you have to say. You're descriptions are awesome.

Hi, there!

Sounds like I'm in a similar situation to you - a mother of small children with literary interests, only I'm an illustrator rather than a librarian.

Wonder if you (or your 4-year-old) can help me: I've been trying to track down the book that contains the quote, "Over the ocean of bubbly goo the letter-eating wombanat flew", which I came across in the mid 1970s and have not been able to trace since. Do you have this book? Or is your 4-year-old just the reincarnation of its author?!

Hope to hear from you,

Horatia
